Towards societally acceptable prices for expensive medicines

Towards societally acceptable prices for expensive medicines’ is a report by the Societally Acceptable Expenditure on Medicines programme (Maatschappelijk Aanvaardbare Uitgaven Geneesmiddelen, MAUG), which is run by three independent governmental bodies: the National Health Care Institute (Zorginstituut Nederland), the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) and The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). At the request of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (hereinafter Ministry of Health), we examined how to obtain societally acceptable prices for expensive medicines and keep them that way. We based our statements on our observations, expertise, previous opinions, public consultations and conversations with experts.
